Who we are, what we stand for, and how we work.
The Indian Association for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
The Indian Association for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (IACBT) was set up in 2016 by Dr. Nimisha Kumar, a Consultant Psychologist and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in teaching, research and practice. She is the Founder and President of IACBT and is also currently the President of the Asian CBTs Association. IACBT was registered in 2016 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (Reg. No. 1931). One of our main objectives is to systematize the practice and training of Cognitive Behavioural Interventions in India and promote research in the field based on global standards but with a firm grounding in the Indian context.
IACBT is a permanent member of the Asian Cognitive Behavioural Therapies Association (ACBTA) and thereby of the World Confederation for Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (WCCBT). The WCCBT is our global body with a presence in every continent and has recently been inducted as a vendor by the World Health Organization. The ACBTA is a regional organization representing Asia in the WCCBT, with membership of 12 Asian countries.
IACBT is not a licensing body. Instead, it aims to develop and run training courses as per its mandate, and to establish a system of accreditation and continued professional development for CBT practitioners registered with the association, while upholding the highest professional and ethical guidelines. All IACBT members are expected to follow a code of professional conduct.
